Forensic Compliance / Vol. 004-X

THE LAW OF
PURITY:
MANDATORY
STANDARDS.

A 2,300-word forensic analysis of the FSSAI and BIS IS 14543 protocols governing the Indian hydration sector.

In India, packaged drinking water is not just a beverage. It is classified as a food product whose making is strictly governed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). For consumers in Kolkata and Howrah industrial clusters, water safety is vital. Understanding these FSSAI standards helps you choose safe, certified hydration.

Statutory Pillar 01

BIS IS 14543: The Chemical Forensics of Safety.

The IS 14543 standard is the mandatory benchmark every bottle of packaged water must follow. It does not just suggest purity. It sets absolute limits for over 50 chemical and biological parameters.

Analytical Parameter Requirement (IS 14543) The Zenith Superiority
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) Maximum 500 mg/l 75 - 110 mg/l (Optimal Bio-Stability)
pH Value 6.5 to 8.5 7.2 to 7.6 (Human Plasma Alignment)
Nitrate (NO3) Max 45 mg/l < 5 mg/l (Molecular Stripping)
Residual Chlorine Absent Not Detectable (Activated Carbon Polishing)
Total Coliform Absent in 250ml Absolute Zero (Dual Sterilization)

Many brands in West Bengal barely meet the upper limits of these requirements. Zenith's Ranihati plant is designed to exceed them. We run our RO (Reverse Osmosis) and Ozonation systems at higher pressures than the industry average. The result is cleaner water than most economy brands.

Statutory Pillar 02

The FSSAI Framework: Operational Purity & Hygiene.

BIS governs the water. FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) governs the place where that water is processed. Zenith's FSSAI certification (License No. 12825999000938) covers several operational rules:

  • Automated Robotic Loop: FSSAI encourages "human-free" filling to prevent biological crossover. Zenith uses fully automated filling systems. Each bottle is rinsed, filled, and capped without any human contact.
  • Source Protection: Intake water must be protected from environmental seepage. Our Ranihati facility uses borehole capping to keep the source clean.
  • Ozone Barrier: We use medical-grade Ozone (O3) as the final security barrier. Ozone is a strong sterilant. It kills 99.9% of microbes and breaks down into pure oxygen before you open the bottle.
Statutory Pillar 03

The Plastic Protocol: PET/BPA Safety.

Regulatory compliance also covers the container. FSSAI mandates that all plastic used for packaged water must be Food Grade. Zenith uses only virgin PET resins. This prevents plastic micro-leaching even during hot transit across the Bengal region. It keeps the water safe from our plant to your building.

Regulatory FAQ

Technical Query Desk.

What is the difference between IS 14543 and IS 13428?

IS 14543 applies to "Packaged Drinking Water," which is actively purified. IS 13428 applies to "Natural Mineral Water," like Himalayan artesian water. Zenith is a processor under IS 14543. We provide consistent quality that natural sources often cannot match due to regional groundwater changes.

Is the TDS of Zenith water consistent?

Yes. Our mineral injection system keeps variance under 3% across thousands of batches. This is the "Zenith Batch Consistency" promise. Your office or home in Kolkata receives the same clean profile every time.
