Water Quality / PURIFICATION

THE 7-STAGE
PURITY ENGINE

A technical deep-dive into how Zenith Water transforms raw water into FSSAI-certified packaged drinking water for Kolkata and Howrah.

Not all packaged drinking water is created equal. The difference lies in the purification architecture. At Zenith Water, every bottle and jar passes through a rigorous seven-stage treatment process before it reaches homes, offices, hotels, and factories across Kolkata and Howrah.

Why Multi-Stage Purification Matters

Water sourced from municipal or borewell supplies can contain dissolved solids, organic matter, microorganisms, and chemical contaminants. A single treatment method cannot remove all of these impurities. That is why Zenith uses a layered purification approach, where each stage targets a specific class of contaminant.

Key Insight

BIS IS 14543 — the Indian standard for packaged drinking water — permits multiple purification techniques. Zenith's process not only meets but exceeds these requirements, ensuring consistent safety and taste.

Stage 1: Sand Filtration

Raw water first passes through a sand filter bed. This removes suspended particles such as dirt, rust, sand, and sediment. Removing these larger particles protects downstream equipment and improves clarity.

Stage 2: Activated Carbon Filtration

Activated carbon absorbs chlorine, organic compounds, pesticides, and odours. This stage significantly improves taste and removes chemical traces that reverse osmosis alone may not fully address.

Stage 3: Micron Filtration

A micron-rated cartridge removes smaller suspended particles, cysts, and some bacteria. This acts as a physical barrier before the water enters the RO membrane.

Stage 4: Reverse Osmosis (RO)

RO is the core purification stage. Water is forced through a semi-permeable membrane that removes dissolved salts, heavy metals, fluoride, nitrates, and most microorganisms. The result is water with controlled Total Dissolved Solids (TDS).

Stage 5: Ultraviolet (UV) Treatment

After RO, water passes through a UV chamber. Ultraviolet light neutralizes bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens without adding chemicals. This provides an additional biological safety barrier.

Stage 6: Mineral Infusion

Purified water is rebalanced with essential minerals such as calcium and magnesium. This improves taste and makes the water suitable for daily consumption, rather than being flat or acidic.

Stage 7: Ozonation

Ozone is bubbled through the water as a final disinfection step. It eliminates any residual microorganisms and prevents microbial growth during storage. Unlike chlorine, ozone leaves no aftertaste.

Quality Control & Certification

At every stage, water samples are tested for pH, TDS, microbiological count, and chemical parameters. Zenith's facility operates under FSSAI license and follows Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Final packaged water complies with BIS IS 14543 standards.

From Plant to Premises

Once purified, the water is immediately bottled or jarred in a hygienic, automated environment. Sealed containers are then dispatched through Zenith's Kolkata and Howrah delivery network. This closed-loop system ensures that the purity achieved at the plant is preserved until the moment of consumption.
